A frame close to the floor may not give the light enough space to spread. In that case, run the strip along the outside of the side rail pointing down, which gives a wider pool of light.
Pets can trigger the motion sensor too. If the cat's night patrol keeps setting it off, switch that side to Stay On at a low brightness, or aim the sensor higher so it catches people rather than paws.
For a staircase, fix one strip along the side of the treads with its sensor at the bottom step, and use the second on the landing above. Anyone heading up or down at night then walks into a soft glow that follows them, with each strip switching itself off once the stairs fall quiet.
